Categories planned for this year’s festival are:

Animation: Films in this category should be interesting pieces that use motion graphics, clay, puppets, stop action, pen and ink, felt scraps, still photographs, paper figures and a glue stick. If you can move the inanimate and make it interesting they want to see it.(Maximum run time: 15 minutes)

Documentary: A QWFF Doc represents good journalism that delivers a clear picture of the topic, not propaganda. Propaganda belongs in our Going Rogue category. (Minimum run time for a feature: 45 minutes; short: 25 minutes)

Narrative: Narrative features and shorts should be quite simply: a sequence of well told fictional events. Minimum run time for feature is 75 minutes and a short is 25 minutes or less)

Going Rogue: If the film is a media mash up, if it doesn’t fit any genre or is completely off the freak’n wall – this is where it belongs. (Minimum run time for a feature: 70 minutes; short: 15 minutes)

Young Filmmakers: This is the place for filmmakers 18 years of age or younger in grades K – 12. The entries may be a class project from an elementary school, an individual project from a High School after-school program and anything in between. (Maximum runtime: 20 minutes.)

LGBT: Films highlighting issues  and stories concerning the gay, transgender and lesbian community (Minimum run time for a feature: 70 minutes; short:  20 minutes)
