Rachel Kohn recently received her MFA from Hunter College and currently has a studio in Long Island City, Queens. Her work is currently on view in Rece$ curated by Jennifer Junkermeier at Crossing Art in Flushing, Queens.
What is your subway stop?
Well generally I am all over the E train, but lately it seems like i have been taking the 7 train to main street a lot.
What is the best musician or artist you saw performing on a subway platform?
I feel like the panflute is the soundtrack to the subway (and yes, I did have to do a google search to find out what the name was for that instrument)
Do you regularly see other artists performing in the area (if so what type)?
What type of work do you do?
I am an artist, making paintings, sculptures and installations
What do you do for fun in Queens or the metropolitan area?
I make holes in gallery walls for fun
What was your first art/performance experience like? Where was it?
My first installation was in a space in midtown, I won’t name where exactly it was, but all I can remember of the experience is battling gigantic roaches
What are you working on now?
I just finished an installation, a few new paintings and sculptures for a show at Crossing Art in Flushing, Queens. It’s a great exhibition curated by Jennifer Junkermeier, and it
has several artists included.
What are you working on in the future?
I am currently making some paintings of weeds, the first of the series are at Crossing Art in Flushing…
