While studying in Italy, Colcord began an intense study of icons, the images became a theme and fire for her work. Fifteen years later, Colcord continues to focus on the mystical, theological and spiritual in her paintings.

3:00pm : Astoria : QUILL presents Cairo Connections: One City, Many Voices: Queens in Love with Literature (QUILL) presents an afternoon of authors and translations from the Middle East at Jerusalem Nights Restaurant and Café in Astoria. Featured artists Ahmed Eissawi, Alice C. Hunsberger and Joyce Zonana with MC and QUILL artist advisor Roger Sedarat will present classical and contemporary texts with Cairo as a historical and contemporary focal point. $5 admission includes tea and light refreshments. In addition to these amazing authors and translators, QCA will announce the winner of the 2011 QUILL Translation Award! Audiences can also enter the QCA raffle to win a Barnes & Noble Nook Color Reader Tablet and peruse wares by local publishing houses Feminist Press and Fractious Press.
