Make Music New York is a live, free musical celebration across the city that takes place each June 21, the longest day of the year. On that day, hundreds of public spaces throughout the five boroughs become impromptu stages for over 1,000 free concerts.
Last year, on the summer solstice, Make Music New York organized one of the biggest musical events in the city’s history: over 1,000 free, outdoor concerts in an incredible array of genres and locations. Thousands of musicians entertained New Yorkers on sidewalks, streets, parks, and gardens throughout all five boroughs of NYC in “an eleven-hour escapade of musical creativity” (The New Yorker).
This year, Make Music New York returns on Friday, June 21st, 2013 — and it promises to be the biggest and best yet.
Make Music New York coordinates your concert with others in the neighborhood, secure all necessary permits, and promote your event through Time Out New York and WNYC. From an acoustic sidewalk setup to a full-scale amplified block party, plenty of options are available.
MMNY 2013 promises to be a celebration of our city’s rich, diverse heritage, and a resounding affirmation of music’s power to engage, enliven, and unite people of all walks of life. We sincerely hope you’ll be part of New York City’s largest music festival this year!
