Thalia Spanish Theatre – A Bilingual Home for Performing Arts

In the heart of Sunnyside, Queens (one of the most diverse communities in the US) is a venue where residents and visitors can enjoy authentic Flamenco performances along with a variety of plays and musical concerts as well as workshops for younger members of the community – and most shows are performed not only in English, but in Spanish as well. Thalia Spanish Theatre is the first and only bilingual Hispanic theatre in Queens. In their 32-year existence, Thalia has produced more then 150 productions of the best Spanish plays, zarzuelas (Spanish Operettas) and folklore shows of music and dance. They also received the 2009 Mayor’s Awards for Arts and Culture. Their mission is to celebrate the vibrancy and diversity of Spanish and Latin American culture with unique productions of plays, musicals and dance.

Be sure to add Thalia Spanish Theatre to your stops along the No. 7 train during Queens Art Express next month!

This Friday May 28, Thalia proudly presents the opening of “Prostitutes Will Precede You Into The Kingdom of Heaven”. Performances are in both Spanish and English; visit their website for show information.

In addition to bilingual performances of this provocative tragicomedy, enjoy their free outdoor festival:

Thalia Al Aire Libre on Sunday, June 13 at 1pm in Thomas Hill Park/Noonan Playground on the corner of Greenpoint Avenue and 42nd Street in Sunnyside, Queens.
